Welcome
to Our World: The Gifted Visual Spatial
by
Amy Cortez, Editor - The Eclectic Telegraph
When
we first started homeschooling in 1999, I knew that my student was
gifted and really thought it was going to be such an easy journey.
Our first few months we used a purchased curriculum from one of
the more well known "homeschool friendly" curriculum providers.
My student literally "sucked" that dry in a few months
and was looking for more. I had pulled him from a private school
that was well known for academics because he wasn't being challenged
enough. I didn't want a repeat of that in our homeschool so we took
a trip to Florida when we reached the end of all the books this
purveyor of knowledge had sent as a "school year". While
on this trip, I realized that my student really had a different
way of absorbing ideas and had an intense memory for the obtuse
details. Talents I didn't have, but I admired.. When we returned
from our trip I "winged it" for the rest of that "school
year" using videos and trips to the library and museums. What
I found from this experiment was that my student, for lack of a
better description, saw most things in pictures and diagrams and
learned things from pictures and diagrams where I saw the world
as an ordered place and ran my life with lists and post-it notes.

Gifted
and Homeschooling
We brought our children home to give them an education that
knows no boundaries of intellect, and allows them the freedom
to learn within the comfort of our loving home.
I am a homeschooling Mom of three highly gifted children.
We use the educational philosophy known as "unschooling"
and prefer to allow our children to choose their learning
path.

Enough, and Nothing More

Meet
the Hamster Shredder
We've already got a 100,000-large network of hamsters in wheels
powering backup generators at Engadget HQ, but in the interest
of energy conservation (especially going into the warmer months),
we think Tom Ballhatchet's Hamster Shredder might be an order.

The
Smart
or Stoopid test is purely meant to be a fun quiz to
see how your IQ rates alongside the average, based on the scores
of other people who have taken the test. Naturally, only stupid
people would take it as a true indicator of intelligence, and only
intelligent people would take it as a true indicator of stupidity.
Or something like that. |

John
and Elizabeth Edwards are homeschooling thier children
while on the Campaign trail?
Elizabeth Edwards said she and her husband would hire a full-time
tutor to travel with the family. The experience would be an unforgettable
educational opportunity, she said, adding that other families have
taken their children out of school for mission trips or sailing
voyages around the world. |
